Is this duckling becoming shrink wrapped???? I'm incubating 3 Rouen & 3 Cayuga eggs, all 3 Rouens hatched Friday night, the Cayuga eggs were put in 1 1/2 - 2 days after the Rouens, today is day 27. After the Rouens hatched the temp & humidity kept fluctuating & it took me a little bit to get everything back to temp & humidity @ 71 degrees. All 3 externally pipped yesterday afternoon & slowly progressing but I noticed that 1 had a large pip this morning with some browning on the exposed membrane, I checked on it again this afternoon & it was trying to pip more but acted like it couldn't, so I applied coconut oil & waited but it still acted like it was struggling after about 1/2 hour so I removed I browning membrane ( which left a big hole). I can see into the hole & the beak the duckling isn't yawning it's moving it's head back & forth ( like a bobble head doll) & when I shine a light onto it, it twitches. Hope that makes sense. Is it shrink wrapped??? Should I continue to assist??? Here is a pic of the egg.

Carefully enlarge the hole. Gently. If you see any blood, stop immediately. If the membrane is dried to the chick, take your finger and drip WARM water onto the membrane. Do not get any into the chicks mouth. If the membrane is dried out, water will soften it and get it to release, not oil. If the membrane looks soft still, see if the chick is encouraged by the larger hole. I just had a hatch of chicks and one couldn't move because the membrane from the egg had stuck to it and dried. I had to hold it under a stream of warm water from the tap and gradually soften it and work it free.

I think I'd assist some. Break more of the upper section out. IF any part of the membrane bleeds, STOP. If not, continue.
I just checked on it & it's still in the same position as in the pic, I didn't want to assist unless absolutely necessary, so you also agree that it looks like it's struggling??? Also, the other 2 that pipped yesterday also, haven't made anymore progress do you think I should open a small hole for them????

If they pipped yesterday .. ? then enlarging the hole will not hurt. If your humidity was too low it will cause a problem.
I just started to remove some more of the shell & there was blood so I stopped, I can hear the other 2 ducklings tapping on the eggs. How long should I wait to assist again???

I've made the shell on the first 1 a bit bigger not much since I saw blood & made small air holes for the other 2 eggs. The humidity is up, so I'm not trying to panic!!! I'll wait til later on tonight to see if they made some progress on their own.
