Sick hybrid and what to do?

Belated update: We finished a 7 day dosing of calcium and Safeguard. Neither have seemed to turn her around. We started last Saturday giving her low strength Nutra drench with electrolytes. That seemed to perk her up some. This morning she got egg yoke, a few drops of Nutra drench, and electrolytes. She hasn't been eating any of her regular feed, but she likes broccoli and watermelon. She's getting out as much as weather permits, and today she was very perky, scratching, and eating bugs. I put her in one of the coops, and she hopped up on a perch. She stayed there an hour. After about 1 1/2 hours back outside, she went under a maple tree and just stood. Probably worn out. She's back in the garage now. We're getting the antibiotic tomorrow and will try that for a while. Will give updates. Thanks y'all!

We're waiting on the antibiotic to arrive today, which we'll start her on ASAP. This morning she had her egg yoke/nutridrench/electrolytes mix 2 1.2mL syringes full, plus we gave her a calcium pill. Then, she got her broccoli/watermelon breakfast which she gobbled up. Still no major change in her energy level or her comb color. Her poop color is dark, and there's still some yellow/whitish watery mix in her droppings. We're doing all we can.

And just so I'm dosing correctly, our hen is 4-5 lbs app. I'm getting the 10% Baytril liquid today. I see this formula, and she is 5 lbs=2.268 kg: Does this equal 22.68 mg of Patrol?

10 mg/kg twice a day

I popped in to say it sounds like she is doing better and may be turning the corner. I cannot answer your dosing question as I don't want to be incorrect so I'm tagging the resident experts who've helped you on this thread to for advice. Best of luck with her.

You are right Bawkbok, they ARE the experts. And so kind to share their knowledge and experience. By the way, the picture on my post is our Head Rooster - Bok Bok:highfive:

I answered your pm, and dosage that many recommend is 10 mg or 0.1 ml of the 10% enrofloxacin/Baytril per kilogram (each 2.2 pounds of weight) given orally —not in water—every 12 hours for 5 days. Casportpony who has used it in the past had said in some posts not to give it in water because it tastes bad, and her chickens would not drink.

Thanks Eggcessive! I mixed up a small amount of electrolytes and water (hoping it would mask the bad taste), and drew .2mL in the syringe and filled the rest of the syringe with the electrolyte solution. I squirted it right down no problem. We'll give her another dose early in the morning. She had some outside time today before the dosing, and she's starting to scratch again. She did, however, have a yellow runny poop. I'm counting on the Baytril to be the cure. We'll keep giving her a calcium pill everyday, since she needs that naturally. Thanks for your help!!!

Update: Well, I wish I had great news, but...........We started her on.2mL of the Baytril on Wednesday afternoon, and so far she's had 4 doses. Yesterday she was outside with us in the garden, still lethargic, but she ate as many white grub worms as we could find. She's still not drinking any water, and since yesterday hasn't eaten much. We fixed her watermelon and broccoli last night, but she didn't touch it. Must have been full from the worms. She's still having watery yellowish puss looking poop. When she's been out today, she'll eat a little grass, scratch some, but doesn't eat much - even her favorite BREAD. I don't see that the Baytril is having any effect on her condition. We're going to continue with the Baytril treatment for 5 days as recommended, but I'm wondering if she is getting sick on her stomach from the antibiotic. Would there be anything to give her for a sick stomach? I've been mixing the .2mL of Baytril with electrolytes in the syringe, but wondering if that is OK. Honestly, I don't know what to do next. My wife wonders if we should take a sample of her poop to the lab in Auburn. Problem is, it's Friday and they're closed until Monday. She is back in the garage in her pen, and is lying down. If anybody has any ideas of what we could try next, please let me know. Thanks!
