My 16 week lavender Orpington is very sick. It started yesterday when I saw her laying flat not moving. I brought her inside thinking it was heat stress. It was 98 degress, but not the hottest day we have had i feel like. She was eating and drinking but still very weak. Overnight it seems she got worse. She can not stand up at all so I don't think she is eating or drinking. She is just limp when I hold her. She is starting to open and close her mouth slowly every once in awhile. She has pale yellow diarrhea. Does this sound like a heat stroke? Can she recover? The only other thing I can think of that could be wrong with her is yesterday I was installing new feeders and set down a tiny metal piece. I've attached a picture. When I went to get it, it was gone. If she ate that, is that what could be making her so sick, so fast? No other chickens seem to be sick at this moment. Could it be coccidiosis even though their cage is clean and they do not leave their cage ever? Any advice is much appreciated.

If it is hot and a chicken suddenly becomes weak and stumbling, you should immediately assume it's from overheating and treat her. It cannot hurt!

So, right now, give her one teaspoon of sugar in one cup of water with a pinch of salt and baking soda. This will revive her immediately within an hour if heat stress is her issue.

Dip her beak in the solution several times to get her drinking, but you must tube or syringe it into her crop if she's too weak. Do it like this.
