Silkie thread!

So those who get eggs for their broody hens.... When exactly do you place them in? Is it a couple of days after noticing they are broody.?...you get eggs and then sneak them in ? Hmmm my girls are my 1st no ones gone broody yet... Still in the waiting to lay part for most of my girls. But I'd like to know for the future. Thanks
O and what is y'allls experience with getting silkie eggs online?

:/

As soon as they are broody I stuff what ever eggs I want to under them. They will accept anything that is close to round! I've had great experiences and terrible ones. By eggs as close as you can to your home if possible.

When this little one hatched out it looked partridge, but now its a dark smokey grey with gold on its chest and wing tips. Any idea on color?

And this one hatched out the same time, sibling to the one above. They looked identical as chicks (partridge looking) and now this one is blue?
It will be interesting to see what color they end up!

Thanks for that answers. Yes, its vaulted. When I say no growth, I do mean NO growth.

Well anyway, Little Blue died at some point today while I was at work. The other 2 silkies I got from the same breeder are doing just fine.
This is what LB looked like... I took this pic in a poorly lit garage with my phone, so the pic does not do the color justice... It was the same size as this when I asked yesterday.

I am so sorry.
Sorry about your baby. I have one doing the same right now. It is so small you could cover it up with a quarter. I'm thinking he might be blind. I get no response when I put my finger near his eyes, no backing up like the rest of the chicks. He walks around with his eyes closed. He is seriously 1/3 the size of a average silkie chick. I doubt he will make it, but I have my fingers crossed. Oh, he also has an incredible vaulted head! It's so big that it leaned to the side when he hatched.
