I have a silkie chicken that started acting lethargic and having diarrhea, she stopped eating and drinking. She also couldn't keep her balance. went on for 4 days and I figured she was going to die, so as a last-ditch effort, I started giving her amoxicillin I had for my dog and she started getting better. After a couple of days, she started eating and drinking and pooping normal. I gave her a bath as she was a mess from having diarrhea and I noticed a lump the size of a marble below her eye ,along side her beak. She's almost normal, still have her separated, and still slightly unbalanced. other than that, she's doing so much better. What could the lump be ? Has me worried, and how long should I continue the amoxicillin.

Hi,

Just like with humans, it's best to finish the course of an antibiotic with animals too. When I gave a chicken fish mox, it was for 5 days, or 7 if she wasn't better, but she was.

Can you get a picture of the lumps?

If it's an infection of some sort, the amoxicillin should take care of that too.

Its right between my thumb and her beak
But nothing on her other side? I'd finish her amoxicillin and see if that goes down.

Glad she's feeling better!

Don't forget to give her probiotics for a few days after she's done with the antibiotic.

If it doesn't go down, let us know.
