I usually can't tell until their peacombs start looking different. Females keep a small single row of peas and the males get another row on each side of the center. You can usually see this before the other signs.

I have 8 Ameraucana chicks, 6 blue and 2 black. They're 4 weeks today, I'll have to look close tonight and see if it's showing yet.

You can sex Silver Ameraucanas as soon as they're fully feathered. Females will continue to feather out a black and white patterning, then later down the road get some salmon on their chest.

Males will look like females at first, then feather out solid black on the chest and tail, solid white on the shoulders, neck, saddle.

excellent, i'll be able to see what i have by the 6-7th week.
does anyone have any pics of their silvers at or around 6-7 weeks of age?

Here is an updated pic of my silver, sadly I lost the other older one. I havn't seen alot of white on it yet so I am hopeing that means it is a pullet. It is 6-7 weeks old.

My DD really likes it also.

Sorry to hear that you lost one.
so at 6-7 weeks it's still possibly to early to tell.
i'll have to post some pics of mine later tonite.

does anyone have any pics of slightly older pullets and cockerals, let's says 10-12 weeks old?

i would like to report that my silver ameraucanas are now 13 weeks old and i ended up with 50/50 split. 4 pullets and 4 cockerals.
could anyone tell me what i should be looking for in the roosters, photos would be great. i would like to keep 1 of them and would like to make certain that i choose wisely. i will be posting pictures of the 4 roosters later...
