Simulated Natural Nest Incubation~Experiment #1 So it begins....

In case anybody wants to see, I did an assisted hatch... I know I know. I say not to do it. But this egg was bought and paid for... $35 to ship 16 eggs to me and this is the only one that grew and made it to hatch day.

Believe me, if this had been one of my own eggs that hadn't traveled anywhere, I would not do this. The only reason I did it was because it was a shipped egg.

It's kinda cool, if I do say so myself. Take a peek at the link in my signature. A different approach to assisted hatch.
That was a really cool idea!

Excellent ingenuity and a good tutorial of why the chick needed that egg shell back in place. Thank you!!!!

I don't see it. I'm on mobile so I can't see siggies

Foxy, those little ducks are the cutest!!!  I think ducklings are way cuter than chicks...they are just chunkier and goofier, which I love.  That gosling is just one huge hunk of baby!  Going to call him Baby Hewey?  :D

I think they are too. And she is just one big fluff ball. No name yet tho

Nice analysis and solutions..... Thanks for documenting.

Hope it's a hen!

My chicks are all doing well. Hatched 20/28, with 2 assisted hatch. (gave away 8) Male died of peritonitis. Female doing so well I can no longer tell her apart from her siblings, so all the female BSL are called Phoenix. ~~Hatchery chicks: bought 17, lost 2. They are now in 3' x 6' brooder/tractor in my garage. I'm making an other tractor about the same size. I'll be scrambling to keep them all housed until the 9 meat birds and 5 hatched males go to the freezer.
