Single Rooster/cockerel coop

Also if he is separate during the day, could he join the girls say an hour before sunset so he is still part of the flock and then roost with them in the same coop at night? So then he would only need a separate fenced area divided off but you wouldn't have to build separate housing. I have not actually tried this, just brainstorming.
 
Question regarding keeping a rooster separate and allowing breeding visitations:
If he isn't a consistent part of the flock will the hens let him breed them? Since he isn't around to constantly assert his dominance won't they see him as an outsider every time he visits?
Hens will come to him if they have to. Breeding is not all about dominance from the hen's perspective.
