Can anyone please give me some suggestions on how to keep my chicken run to smell better. I was going to by DE but the supply store I usually go to does not sell DE powder, they suggested I use Limestone???? Is this safe for my chickens? Does anyone have any suggestions, the run is a dirt run. I have about 31 pullets/cockerls right now. I plan on going down to about 21.

Thank you.

How big is the run? Some sand may help and it's easy to rake out. Agricultural lime is what will help cut down on odor, you can get it at a garden center. Make sure it's that and not hydrated lime, which can burn the chooks.

Tossing down some pine shavings may help wick up some moisture & dry it out. My run only stinks the 3 days a year it rains in PHX.

I've heard of using lime powder in their feed, but I'd be sure it's labeled poultry-safe before throwing some down. I use sand in my run and the only time I have issues with odor is after it rains. I just try to clean it out every couple of days, sort of like a big litter box.
