I have a bantam Brahma that has been laying soft shelled eggs while she's on her roost. All the other hens are laying normal eggs, except the broody hens, who aren't laying at all. My Brahma hen is about 2 years old. I have been feeding my hens laying feed and scratch, but I'm planning to feed them grower feed with a side of oyster shell as soon as I get oyster shell.

Here's some of the eggs she has laid:

I went thru this with a 4 yo Barred Rock hen who was my favorite. I thought it was due to her reaching the end of her laying age, but it turned into a nasty case of egg peritonitis which ended up spreading to other chickens. I wish I would have isolated her immediately when it first started manifesting. I lost two hens to it before I identified what was happening. Treatment is antibiotics and draining the abdominal fluid. There is debate about whether it spreads, but I think other chickens eat the funky egg material and end up sick too. For me there were not other obvious symptoms until my favorite hen was really sick. Good luck!

Woah

I hope it isn't egg yolk peritonitis! Do you think I should separate her from the other hens?

My hen laid this egg today! It's weirdly shaped, but it's the first egg she's laid in two weeks. Does this mean she's ok now?

UPDATE: My hen hasn't laid a weird egg since 7-24-17. I'm pretty sure she's laying regularly now, but I think she's laying most of them in a secret nest. :barnie
