Something has killed 4 of my ducks… what do I do???

Racoon are vicious, and their kills range from kill a bunch for fun (especially young ones in training), vs tear the bird apart limb by limb.

I lost a hen yesterday, the entire bird eaten on site in the fenced backyard. I have never had a bird eaten down to just the guts left. Wings torn off, too. Has to be one of a$$hole raccoons. Their only use is for a hat!

When I was relying on my Nite Guard lights to keep them away I had one get into my not so secure pens and kill two of my ducks. My one was my Wood duck and it ate all of it and all I found was a few of its feathers left. The other was a Khaki Campbell duck and it opened it up and ate its whole insides. It made me sick, I totally agree with all they are good for is a hat! So sorry for your loss. I have since gotten all new pens and spent a lot off money but feel better that they are a lot safer now.

That's traumatising. How is the rest of your flock behaving after witnessing that? How did it get in?
The chickens free range, so they were out. Usually the guard dogs are out and would have killed the assailant, but not this time. The rest of the flock went to the coop and run. Still not sure what the predator was, tho. I have lost other over the years to a racoon, but never had the birds picked clean. That racoon meant it maker via the dogs eventually. This time was really odd, It was like what a cat does to a mouse!
