Tomorrow I'm bringing 30 chickens and 3 guinea hens to show at the South Florida Fair in West Palm Beach. Please wish us great success! The show is judged, but it's not as high-intensity as many other poultry shows, a lot of folks show their backyard birds.

Last year we showed our own pet chickens and I was surprised to find many people looking to buy them at the end of the show. My boys did not want to part with any of their pets, so we didn't sell any. But this year I ordered chicks in July to raise up to show & sell at this year's fair.

They're an assortment of heavy-breed layers and a few roos. All 24 weeks old, healthy & beautiful, just beginning to lay. I hope to sell them all. If you go, look for the ones exhibited by me, Carol King, or my son, David King. Ask for me at the Poultry Tent, I'll be spending many hours volunteering there.

Are there any other BYCers showing there? If you live in the area, you may want to consider showing next year. It's a fun low-pressure show. Last year my Black Jersey Giant hen won Reserve Champion Hen and all I did to prepare her for the show was to grab her up from the yard and drive her to the Fair!

Hope to see you at the Fair!

hi Carol. My hubby and I, and maybe some of the kids are going to go there this weekend. I just can't believe it cost $15.00 just to get in

. I really just want to go to see the livestock, mostly the chickens

. You will be there this weekend? I will look for you. Am trying to get my husband to let me get a couple more hens for eggs, but the city of Pompano Beach doesn't allow them.
I already have 6 hens, just starting to lay, 3 ducks, and 1 rooster that I really need to find a home for. As it stands right now, he comes in the house at night and put into a dog crate because I don't want him getting the neighbors mad, if you know what I mean? He is a pet, and I need to find him a home where no one will put him on their table

. Let me know if you will be there, love to me you.

I'm planning to be there for some hours this weekend, both Sat & Sun. I hope we can meet too. Even if I'm not there, talk to the others about our "Chicken Club", the PB Poultry Fanciers' Assn. It's a social club that meets monthly at Mounts Botanical Center in WPB, and our big event of the year is manning the Poultry Tent at the So Fla Fair. Maybe you'll want to join us. Maybe someone in the club would like to give your roo a home.

They've tagged the show cages with Exhibitor #s, not names, so look for #2 & #15. And look on Champion Row! Our birds won Champion Pullet & Reserve Champion Pullet in both the Open & Youth categories! Way to go, girls!

I'm selling all my entries, they're all heavy-breed layers + 2 cockerels, all 6 months old, all took 1st place ribbons, all just beginning to lay. Tell your friends!

thanks so much Carol, the info was great! I can't wait to go, as I have never been to one before, go figure

. That would be wonderful if someone would like to take my roo, I really do want him to find a good home, he's a real nice bird, and pretty too. I didn't mention, he is about 6 months old, a young guy! Looking forward to meeting you.
