Splash/ Blue Silkie Thread

Pics
I just had some silkies shipped and received them this morning. I was thinking this chick and one like it will be splash, but most of the chicks I see on this thread look more silvery or gray. Can anyone tell me what to expect from these chicks?

The chipmunk stripes on the back lead me to believe it will be a wheaton/columbian/ partridge color. I really don't know. When the wing feathers come in, maybe post a picture later. . I raise Paints and have never had stripes on the back like that. Random spots. Not stripes. The second chick picture you posted looks Blue or Splash. Nice chickies what ever their color.

Ok...chicks are old enough to have some decent wing feathers now, Can anyone help me with what the colors will be for these five? I also would appreciate any info you can give me on the feather types for these five.

#1 This one is the chick in the previous post. The shade makes it look like there are some brown tones but there are not.

#2 This one appears to be all black (fluff looks lighter in this picture than it does in real life)

#3 This one is almost identical to the one in the first picture but has slightly different spots. Again...there are no brown tones in real life

#4 This one looked identical to ##2 at hatch, but is now showing this reddish brown flecking in the wing feathers

#5 This one is a soft blue coloring.

They look:
-silver partridge or penciled
-blue
-silver partridge or penciled
-partridge or maybe black or blue with red leakage
-blue or splash

Those 2 silver partridge/penciled chicks look to be mixes. They don't have Silkie feathering.

Thank you! I am not familiar with all the variations of Silkies so was assuming they were some smooth sizzle or something along those lines. They were purchased from Papa's Poultry in Redding, CA and were listed as "Silkies/sizzles/Frilkies" His description of the pens these chicks come out of is as follows:

"One pen is all frizzled roos over silkie and sizzle and a few bantam chocolate cochin hens. The other pen is Silkie and Smooth Sizzle roos over mostly frizzled silkie and sizzle hens. I have one more pen that is a buff silkie roo over 3 frizzled sizzle hens. Chicks can be from any one of these pens. There will likely a huge variety and many chicks will have faults in regard to breeding for true silkies, sizzles, or frilkies. These are mean to be fun pet chicks"

I hope this helps explain the feathering on those 2 chicks...

They likely are Sizzles (fabulous birds, by the way, I've been breeding them for a while now). But, since Sizzles aren't an accepted breed, they're pretty much mixes. I like them because you can actually see the patterns on their feathers, where they tend to get washed out in Silkie feathers :)

Thank you!!! I have given up trying to keep track of all the Sizzle, Frizzle, Frilkie, Frazzle.....

No worries, it can be a bit confusing!
-Sizzle: smooth or frizzled normal feathered bird with all the characteristics of a Silkie (extra toes, crest, walnut comb, blue earlobes, feathered shanks, can be bearded or non bearded).
-Frizzle: can be any breed, has the frizzled gene and shows frizzled feathers.
-Frilkie: a frizzled Silkie (with shredded, Silkie feathers).
-Frazzle: a frizzled bird with a double dose of the frizzle gene (the result of breeding two frizzles together). Usually has brittle feathers and bald patches where they rub or break off. They do produce 100% frizzled offspring when paired with a smooth bird, about the only good thing that comes from them.

I hope that helps get things a little straighter for you :)

Thank you! That is probably the best explanation I have heard!
