I have a roosting cage in my coop with a bit of shavings under it to absorb moisture. I'm also using Stall Dry from TSC. I sprinkle a bit over the droppings on the cage floor to prevent odor and insects. The bag says that it contains DE but I'm not sure if it is food grade. Can I put this in my compost pile?? Thanks.

Good question. I'm going to have a big trailer load of shavings including Stall Dry soon to dispose of.

When I clean the coops in Winter ours goes directly on the garden to be tilled in the Spring. Spring and Summer I make a compost heap and use the dirt for flowers and such. I use Stall Dry and DE in my wood shavings and have no problems in the veggie gardens. In fact this is one of the best years we have had for all plants and crops.

I am not sure what stall dry is but I use a product called Sweet PDZ. It is volcanic rock crushed up it will absorb odor moisture and help your compost pile break down. It is perfectly safe you can spread it with your hands if you like. Here is a link if you want to read about it. I love the stuff because it is safe and effective.
