it’s beautiful here today. low 40s and sunny. my chickens got out of the coop this morning but when i went to fill their water just a few minutes ago they were all inside the coop.

i’ve noticed this a few times over the last two weeks. it’ll be the middle of the day and they’re all inside the coop.

their run is plenty big, and has perches and clutter to keep them entertained. also their food and water is out there.

what gives ?

Something got them nervous? My girls have been hanging out in the barn a lot lately though not in the coop (converted horse stall). Maybe just staying out of the cold wind?

Can you put your approximate location in your profile? Makes it easier to answer questions.

Its quite normal in my flock. They like to hang out and preen themselves in the coop throughout the day. I free range, so they could have free space, but they do like to stay in there during some time of their day.

good to know, thanks. i just went out in the yard and they were out in the run scratching and playing so i guess they just go in and out all day long.

My girls are hanging in the barn alley and the feed room today. Maybe they will come out when the temp rises and the frost is off the grass. They started the "feed room as day room" thing a couple of years ago so I spread old hay in there for them now.
