Stimulating baby goats to potty?? Help Please

This is a funny/serious subject. First they won't go and then they scour! We are bottle feeding four Nubians and they don't have a problem, but we have been rubbing since the beginning. We do have an advantage though. Jackson, one of our dogs just loves to lick their butts. We stopped him at first, but we just gave in and let him go to town (so to speak). We were using flushable wet wipes and they seem to work quite well. Of course we can't wipe/rub while thaey are eating cause our hands are full with two bottles each.

All I can say is have fun!

When my littlest didnt want to eat I gave him a fortified B complex shot and it helped his appetite. With her being so tiny maybe her tummy isnt very big right now and more frequent meals are needed. Does she act like she is in any kind of pain? What type of nipple are you using. I either use the playtex disposable bottle or a pritchard nipple the red kind with the yellow ring. I keep all kinds around here cause I always get 1 that dont like certain kinds.
I also add a pinch of Baking soda to each bottle to help their tummies...Good luck

Hi, and Thanks, i use the pritchard...she dosent seem in any pain, but still has not pooped on her own yet!..UGH! i got 2 oz in her at the last feeding..she seemed to take the nipple better this time..but its such a fight! she still twists her head and bucks and tries to spit it out..(shes a feisty little thing!).. we both end up coated in milk..

...my fear is that something is wrong with her internally, why wont she poop?? this is just weird, i have not had this problem before... so, how long do i wait until i act if she has not pooped?

and also, thanks for the tip about the baking soda..

here goes my attempt to help: Will she suck on your finger if you put it in or near her mouth? If so let her get started sucking on your finger and then without removing your finger slide the nipple in next to it and then remove your finger slowly. I had a puny lamb that wouldn't suck and the ONLY way I could get her started was by rubbing the inside of her ear, where it gets thick, next to her head. Go figure, but it worked and now she's used to the bottle just fine. What are you using to feed them, if it's whole milk, get Sav-a-lam, if it's Sav-a-lam, mix it a little more richer than the bag says, that should get everything moving. Is it possible that she has an intestinal issue, like a blockage or something? That may be why they sold her?! Animals are born with issues too, my MOm bought a potbellied pig that was born with out a rectum, now THAT was a nightmare and a whole nother thread LOL!!!!

I'm already so attached to her... if she cant see me she tries to jump out of her play pen..and cries until she hears my voice...yup..we had a goat in bed with us last night for a few hours...

i felt bad she kept crying and as soon as i picked her up to snuggle she stopped..so i had to let her sleep for a bit with us... Ooh my! a pig born without a rectum! i cant even go there..

poor thing! Would you happen to know when i need to act if she has not pooped? like some type of time frame?...i dont want to do another enema if i dont have to..but i dont want to wait and risk blockage...

I honestly have no clue. I have never had a lamb that didn't do it's business without help. I currently have 3 bottle babies and I got all of them when they were less than 12 hours old and even the puny little one that wouldn't eat, pees and poops ALL DAY LONG. If she has a blockage up high, I don't think the enemas will help but I am not a vet.
