Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

That is so much progress!!

I can't remember, but are you giving her swim time too to strengthen that leg?

You must be so happy with her improvements. Glad she found a good home that is taking such amazing care of her after what she's been through. :hugs :love
Yes she swims everyday
Some days less then others as she tells me when she is done
Then I work on trying to loosen those stiff joints
She will be inside till spring as she just went through loosing her winter feathers
Probably from being inside in the warmth
Her family that had her didn’t mean any harm they didn’t know what niacin was and just thought this was a deformity
Once they learned about niacin they did the best they knew how
She got much worse after the pool got put away for winter
She was very much loved and her personality shows that
She loves to be on your lap getting affection
They did niacin in her feed and tried the B complex in water but she refused to drink it
They didn’t know you could give orally
But I had the good stuff from USA
Durvet B comlex and I’m comfortable giving it orally
We have been doing that since the day she got here
They have talked it over and would like her to stay here in case she needs future care
I will know the signs to look for as well as I have everything here to help her
Hopefully by spring she is ready to meet her new family of 31 ducks
Next time I go to turn I’m going to grab a measuring tape so I can measure for those leg braces
I have also talked to the vet and think we will do some leg X-rays
I need to make sure that the bones did grow correctly so I can be a bit more aggressive when doing therapy
I don’t want ti hurt her so I just do it slightly but feel like I have loosened those joints up

A little update on my rehab duck
We had a geeky slow week with no improvements but then a few days ago she seemed like she was getting stronger on the one leg
With her I really think this is going to take a long time to get her fully mobile
When I got her the one foot was really tore up from dragging it in the sand in the run ( the 2 ducks were with the chickens ) but the foot has made great improvements
I’ll post before and after pics
The one pic was actually a week after I got her and had already started to look better as it was infected I had done 5 day treatment of medication
Also the last video I took of her getting over to me
I feel like she is getting higher on the one leg that she use to drag
She has improved soooo much!!! Great Job!!!!

Wonderful to see she’s doing so well!

I have been victimized again!

I scooped Truffle up for snuggles only to realize that he had STINKY TOES and he rubbed the putrid smelly duck goo all over me.

The culprit who isn’t ashamed at all!

Today he’s the honorary stinkflipper.

You should fire his maid who didn’t have his Royal poo cleaned up 😂

Now THIS I want to hear about! :pop
I was wrong, it was more like two years ago that he was trying to murder me. Every day I was plagued with a golden menace biting at my ankles, weaving between my feet as I walked, tripping me, causing me to fall over constantly, dump food and water buckets, it was constant harassment.

I posted a a while back about this terror.

I‘m here again to report a crime!

I was down weeding my garden. Crouched down minding my own business and the beige bastard came down and assaulted me.

To put this in perspective my little garden is below a 20ish foot bank. Up above the bank is my back lawn. The ducks never go down to the garden, it’s an ordeal getting down their for them and probably spooky too as I’m pretty sure they’ve seen the resident fox “Sigourney” down there on occasion.

I figured I was safe from duck nonsense all the way down there, but as I’m weeding away I hear that little monster’s voice rasping away. I turn around and he’s there, on top of the rocks at the top of the bank staring down at me.
He started pacing around, then starts half climbing, half tumbling down the bank as all I can do is watch in bewilderment.

Once he’d made it to the base of the bank he tears off towards me. At this point I figured that he was enticed by the prospect of uprooted worms and would just weedle around me as I worked, but that would be a rational thing for a duck to do and Sunbeam is not rational.

He charged right up to me and bit me on the face! I swatted him away and he bit me twice on the hand. I picked him up and he bit me on the arm.
I‘m covered in duck pinches!

After Truffle hatched Sunbeam transformed into a sweet bashful boy. He still has some spiciness in breeding season but otherwise he’s pretty chill now. I don’t know what happened.
