Terriers

We have a great little jack russell/rat terrier mix. He was about 8 years old when we got our firsr chickens. He could totally care less about chickens. He is great with all animals! Except mice! Haha.
He is 100% trustworthy around the birds!
We also have a yorkie which is also a terrier- yorkshire terrier
And he is also fine with chickens. As is our black lab.
The only one who wants to chase them sometimes is the chihuahua/hairless chinese crested mix.
Our black lab can be found laying on his side in the yard with chickens all around and sometimes on him!!
The chickens will chase my yorkie for some reason! Haha!
Here is the jack russell/ rat terrier. He is 10 years old now and this was taken the other day

Your dogs sound amazing! I forgot yorkies were terriers too! Your lab sounds like he's great with the birds and like he's a good boy. I like Chinese Cresteds but I admit I prefer the powder puff lol

Wow that's awesome he still jumps on logs and stuff at 10!

Lol yeah he doesnt see well at night any more. But his age doesnt slow him down yet at all!
And yes im thankful all my dogs are so good. I was a vet tech for 13 years and so we fostered and bottle fed lots of little kittens, puppies, squirrels.. so they got real used to being around alot of diff animals.
They are all great dogs but the yorkie and chihuahua/ crested mix are the worst barkers.... so no more of them haha.
I highly recommend black labs and jack russells as well as rat terriers. They are great smart dogs!
I think my next dog will be a blue or red heeler. I have always loved them!

Aww he sounds great!

Oh wow that's awesome! Sounds amazing haha

I don't like barking so I don't think I would like that lol our dog barks a lot sometimes out of boredom and it's annoying aha

Oh yes, I love Labs! We had a yellow Lab before this dog and our current dog is a black Lab/Great Pyrenees mix. I think I'll always have a Lab or a retriever of some kind.

I'll have to look into jack russells or rat terriers though. And I love heelers/cattle dogs! They seem like wonderful dogs. I considered getting one but probably a little too tough personality wise as well as energetic for us. Maybe one day though.

What little cuties you guys have.

This is my Westie, lily. She is the sweetest little thing, she has been easy to train and not yappy at all (I know terriers have the reputation) she even does tricks for treats! Hehe
This was taken just after her trip to the groomers she isn't usually this white.

She's adorable. I love westies, they were the first breed I ever wanted as a kid, my parents got me a poodle instead. I still haven't owned one yet, but I have groomed a few over the years. Lovely dogs.

Poodles are nice dogs, one of our neighbor's used to have ine and we walked her. She was the sweetest dog and so smart. Sadly the husband was sick and died several years ago and when he did, his wife moved to Florida and gave the dog to her son a few towns over

What are you guys thoughts on border terriers and cairn terriers? And/or does anyone have them and can give more insight on the breed?

And what's everyone's favorite terrier breed?

I have never had either. But i have a few cairn terrier grooming clients. And we had alot that came to the clinic when i worked as a vet tech. They were friendly enough but seem to have a lot of health problems.
We dont have many border terriers around here.
My favorite terriers would have to be a jack russels and rat terriers.

That's disappointing they seem to have health problems as I had thought they were supposed to be hardy :/ I wonder if it partially has something to do with overbreeding due to them being the "Toto" dog? I wonder if I found a breeder if it would be better? Their coat seems like somewhat a lot of work though hah

And hmm, I'll have to look into those :)

Yeah they do require alot of grooming. Border terriers certainly require alot less than cairn terriers:)
