Puppy keeps attacking chickens

The dog should not be in the crate all day. She needs exercise.

I agree. The dog needs to be comfortable in the crate and be able to tolerate it for several hours. If you are worried she will get into mischief, gate off an area for her. Usually the kitchen works well, or the kitchen plus one other room. In this area should be a dish of water and her crate.
