Perhaps she is your head hen...my head hen doesn't allow any other hens even in the coop while she is laying. I have 4 nest boxes at the moment, she could be hunkered down in one of them and if another hen comes in while she is doing her business she will get out of her nest and chase them out, then go about her business.
Perhaps that's it. I've always assumed Angela was the head hen since she laid first and is the oldest and largest. When she was little, she would peck my hands when I was trying to refill the feeders, but she's had a very reasonable temperament as she has matured. As long as you aren't carrying snacks, she's pretty docile.

Im sorry. I have never experienced this so I don’t think I’m much help, but maybe try to move the hen and eggs. Prepare a fresh clean nest and carefully and quickly move them. Do your best to brush off any ants. As I said I’ve never had that happen, so I really don’t know. And moving hatching eggs is also dangerous. I’m just telling you what I’d probably do, but I don’t really think it is necessarily the best option. Maybe start a new thread instead of posting here. It will draw more attention to your question.

Agree. Use a dog kennel or crate. Move the hen and chicks away from the ants. I suggest a small plastic type crate to keep the hen contained until the eggs hatch.
You will have to carefully move them somewhere else (mom, eggs, and hatched chicks) and brush any ants off once they are moved. Good luck & let us know how it goes.
