That's it... I have a confession to make.

they don't show affection unless you are feeding them

Mine do. I was on the hammock today with three hens in my lap who jumped up there to visit and sit with me of their own accord, knowing I had no food to give them. You are grumpy today, ticks. Cheer up!

One of my "most favorite" things to do is sit down on the ground and call to my banty splash cochin "Cookie". She sees me, I pat my leg, and she runs over to jump up and be cuddled. She talks to me in chicken talk. I tell her I understand and tell her how beautiful she is. There is no doubt in my mind that she loves me in her own chicken way, and I LOVE her. She brings me such joy, I don't think I could ever really explain it to non-chicken people................

Another here that's in love with her chickens. I just came inside from holding each of them, feeding/watering them and tucking them in for the night.

Awww. Thankfully I don't find that true at all with mine. I raised mine as 3 day olds tho. I'm their leader. They follow me, very curious, I only feed them in one spot. My layer gives me a lap dance all the time. She gets all mantra when i pet her. She tells me when something is out of place. She tells me when she's on her period. She tells me when her coop door is closed. I can't do anything outside without them by my side. I yell when they do something wrong, like climb the fence, and they always get down. They know my nice voice compared to my mad voice. That's just my birds though. I don't have a huge flock or anything. I only have two birds.

We all have our days, ticks. Hope tomorrow is better for you. Hug a chicken. Even if she doesn't want you to.

See, I knew you all would understand and be right there with me! My DH thinks I'm nuts, but I really can't help but love my chickens! Rooster and all! Whenever I am feeling grumpy (like Ticks is today) I visit the chickens and they make me smile. They somehow just make those grumpy feelings go away. My girls saw me walking down from the mailbox today and all came running clear across the yard and right on up the driveway to my feet! I can't help but get warm fuzzy feelings towards my crazy birds when they show me so much affection. Does anyone else ever want to just pick their chickens up and give them the big hugs?!?! Yes, I know I'm strange.

Whatever floats your boat! Just feel better soon. Hey, I'm a grumpy Gus at times myself, at least till one of my girls wants to be held.
