The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I think Mille Fleur D'Uccle Bantams are even on an eb base.
I heard this from one person. When I was working on MFs they told me this and that is why everybody's project MFs didn't quite have the nice pattern of the D'Uccles.
I brought it up to others a few times and they all acted like I was stupid and the only reason the D'Uccles had the better pattern was because they'd been bred for so long.

I wanted to get some stuff accomplished with the birds today. Get some pens ready, maybe move some birds, you know anything but pics.
3 days of rain so so far it's just been feeding and watering and putting tons of straw everywhere to combat the mud.

Just had a huge down poor and all my pens are flooded by ankle deep water. :(

Do you mean the black in the middle of the hackle feathers? I don't have wheatens so I can't look at my own flock for differences.
Yes
This bird threw the wheaten pullet when mated to a his Silver Duckwing appearing mother, who is likely split wheaten.

This is his sire who throws mostly Duckwing looking females, but some may be splits.

And this is an old picture of the original pair, who likely are both at least splits. The pair produced what looked like all SDW. So maybe its the wheaten that causes the striping and not the duckwing?

There are also other genetic factors that can eliminate hackle striping from duckwing.
I just feel like in general, wheatens have less striping...
Wheaten Ameraucanas have less striping (but still some) and every wheaten Game cock that I see on Google always has clear hackles.

This is more of *my observation* than fact though. Don't take my observation as fact.
Too late...

I feel you on the mud. We have had a ton of rain so far this spring, and more rain is predicted over the next week. Its hard to do a whole lot when everything is swampy. We use a lot of straw too. lol

But as soon as it’s sunny and dryer we need pictures. 😁

We started using cheap mulch at work for a few places that get muddy and wants to stay that way. So far it's been working pretty good as long as it doesn't get too flooded and wash away.
I think I'm going to try to find a cheap source for some and start with my walking paths. Then I might end up using it in some of my pens that get the worst.
