The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I need gift ideas for my husband for our Anniversary and Fathers day. What about a Dremel tool? We currently use a spur saw and a mounted holder when we saw rooster spurs off. A Dremel tool would be quicker. 🤔

How about a new truck? Zero turn mower? Some more Leghorns? A maticoopx?

Sweet
My kid is soooo bored with white eggs. I looked at cackles marans and would of gotten some of those buff ones but they've been pretty much always sold out.
Really dark egg welsummers could also be on the list.
For real "colored" eggs I'll probably look into CCLs but I'd only want blue egg layers. I'm not a fan of those green egg laying CCL.
Bothers me they call them black tailed buff when they're black tailed red
But
I really like the Welsummers from Deer Run Farm. They're all business. If you want to be drowning in dark brown eggs and wishing you never added to your egg overload they're the girls you're looking for. They lay more than any other breed I've owned even though you do get the occasional broody. Also they're good free rangers and smart, with a mild temperament. They were friendly birds as chicks but when they got older I guess us humans were phased out of their chicken world and they mostly ignore us unless we have food.
Work may get interesting today. Boss's wife told me they're taking part in some "rock and bike" event. Bunch of biker trash bouncing from location to location and ending here at 2:00.
She said they've never done anything like this and have no idea what to expect. LOL, I do, I was biker trash from way back. I have no idea why this kind of event got linked to a horse Barn but let the games begin.
Bring it on
Without the white eggs, the others don’t stand out as much.
Agreed
We have Ameraucana bantams, and next to the off white of the other bantams and the mid brown of the Welsummer bantams their eggs just look white but they are kind of s light blue
Figured I would grab a pic of the Red Leghorn before they all start dropping feathers. He is looking raggedy. The Leghorn hens were eating his hackle. I hate when hens do that. I hope his tail molts in nicer. He may very well have the ugliest comb I have ever seen. It looks like a saw blade. With a little luck, his offspring will have nicer combs.

Selective breeding project: all saw blades comb
Would look totally metal
I have a OEGB with an uglier comb. I mean look at it. It's giving you the finger, lol.

Oof
It looks like it is slinging gang signs or something! Dub that thing and put that poor comb out of its misery! 😆😆😆
Lol
It is a shame we have nicer combs on the Games and they end up dubbed off. This one isn’t perfect, but nicer than old Saw Blade. Huh, I guess the Red Leghorn has got himself a name now. Mmmhmm. Oh wait, that’s Sling Blade. 😆

Silver/Gold Duckwing
I'm glad I have rose combed chickens and don't need to worry about fussy points
Move to Missouri. Winter will dub them for you.
A rose comb win again
Besides they remind me of white Leghorns which I'm also not a fan of.
Why not? They are so elegant and graceful
That bird looks like it will straight up steal your lunch money or mug an old lady.
LOL
Real

I actually kind of regret getting single-combed Buff Leghorns, and wish I would have gotten the rose-combed version instead. I eventually would like to have at least one rose-combed Leghorn variety. Maybe RC Dark Browns. 😍
I think the single combed ones are prettier, honestly
Especially because people who raise the rose combs get lazy and don't select for a good comb and unlike the smooth d'Anvers comb, that type of rose comb looks kind of awful without diligent selection (part of the problem is the single comb gene is in a lot of those lines and you can telll)
But also I seriously love the regal/flopsy look of the single comb.
However, a d'Anver isn't supposed to look like a flopsy or regal chicken, it's supposed to look like a cute little bird you found in your garden that doesn't quite look like a chicken.
