Was pretty late in the day but I did get another batch of eggs set yesterday. I think that puts me at 6 days until my first hatch of the year. might want to get a brooder set up soon. Should probably go ahead and get about 3 set up so I'm ahead of the game but that doesn't sound very Moony.
Kid is out of school so might get some help with some things but might also get slowed down on some things.

Moved around a few roosters today. Looks like I might only have about 3 that can still go. OK probably twice that many easily but back ups and back up back ups are a good thing.
Move on to the hens today. Went through the 3 big pens and pulled any that was gosh awful ugly. Mostly just rough molts but if you all only got these pretty females I couldn't have some of those trashing up the place.
I went through all the blacks after that. Bkacks are about my least favorite color but they can be used for barred or blue or in a mottled pen in a pinch. Even could be used for blue barred etc. Too many options to not keep some around.
I looked for clearer yellow legs and better combs mostly. Put 20 in my keepers for now.
Only kept 5 of the brown females. If all else those are hard to find. Moved to the blues and finally got done to 25 blues and 7 splash. I need to cut more but I love the blues so.
Only had 4 splash silver duckwing girls and looks like 2 are keepers for sure. Didn't look like I had but a few blue silver females so I'm gonna need to work on those.
I don't think there was any splash gold duckwing girls but quite a few blue gold duckwings. Started pouring so I'll have to go through those at another time.
Now to figure out where and how to pawn these extras off. I hate dealing with people.

Sounds like a productive day! Can't wait to see your chicks in 6 days. My son's last day of school is Tuesday and he is excited. I wish I could get a summer vacation from school.

You could always give up nursing and become a lunch lady. I know a couple here and they get summer breaks just like the kids.
I know one said you can opt to get paid weekly even through the summer. 3 months off work and still getting a paycheck sounds pretty sweet to me.

Being off in the summers and every holiday and break would be nice. My husband is a custodian at a local school and is off like that. I am always so jealous.

I've thought about being a bus driver for the school. How cool would it be to be like Otto from the Simpsons.
I just know IRL it'd probably be a pita to get and keep the job. You know like have a valid driver's license and everything.

My mom drove bus for a very long time. Had to keep up a CDL driver's license. Wasn't too hard but the kids and the parents can be the worst.

Yes the worst part would be dealing with rotten kids and their even more rotten parents. My husband has toyed with the idea of doing CDL school during his summer break. They are always looking for school bus drivers and the schedule isn't bad at all. We have no help with child care whatsoever so since I work 12 hour nights and have to do clinical on most of my days off, my husband is at the mercy my son's school schedule so he can pick him up and get him from school. The job he has now has a perfect schedule so we are just limping along in life at the moment until I graduate.

We finally got a good day to plant the garden. After that near heat stroke we moved chickens from one pen to the next and back over and some over yonder. I also have chicks hatching as I type. Also have a bunch of my young RIRs sold. I’m gonna candle those eggs that I bought last week and see how that’s going. Moony, it would take me a week to accomplish what you just did in a day!
