The Moonshiner's Leghorns

@Amer my Brown Leghorn eggs came from Don Schrider. He was highly recommended and his birds are just stunning. Have you seen him around shows you have been to? He is a super nice guy and has been a pleasure to order from.
I haven't met him but I've heard him talk on a podcast and I've heard all about him.
NVM @Amer. I have been reading through the thread as I get free time and I just saw that you posted this in 2024! I'm stoked I was able to get eggs from him!
:wee
It's awesome you got eggs from him!

Ocellated Turkey is my favorite turkey that I will never have.
Yeah I imagine they are hard to get a hold of. However, if you want just regular old turkeys HMU. I can't set many this year because they take up too much brooder space and they get overwhelming in very large numbers. We will only hatch just enough to keep a few breeders and have a few to butcher this year.

I hate it when that happens. It's always the most important ones too. I'm sorry. :hugs
My d'Anvers are always most likely to die but they are the smallest. Ironic though because they are the smartest out of the chicks when it comes to drinking water.
With any beared breed it's more likely to happen. At lest it was only one.

Thank you. I still have a hard time culling.
Probably true. I cull hard against bad beak shapes but they're still imperfect, the upper mandible never seems to stop growing.
I'm trying to select for a shorter, stouter beak.
After the first couple of generations of my birds I haven't noticed any cross beaks though, just a couple off center beaks these days.
Outcrossing is actually bad for the beak shape because all that selection goes away you can inbreed a nice beak on though.
I've heard it was associated with the rose comb gene giving a shorter head but maybe it is the beards if the same is the case for Ameraucanas plus I've never seen short heads on rosecombed Leghorns.
