The movie Coraline, just some thoughts.

Ha! I am listening to Nation (Pratchett) right now and listened to Coraline (Gaiman is a favorite of mine... have you read American Gods?) within the past year. Good stuff.

As for thw movie, I would consider Burton's stuff far too dark and disturbing for my six year old daughter, so I hadn't even considered taking her to see it. "Bouncing pasties"? Yikes. I don't recall hearing that in the audiobook!!! I am pretty comfortable with most risque topics and talk to my little girlie about everything reproduction-oriented, but that quote gives even me the willies.

(Yes, read all of Gaiman's stuff, I think, except Coraline. Love him!
Pratchett is another favorite author.)

I expect my teens will hoot and holler when the pasty scene comes up. Doubt the threat of it will keep them from watching it, though.

I would agree, this movie is not appropriate for younger children. I saw it and I loved it, but I love Burton films. The nearly nude older woman was a little, well a lot, revealing. I didn't like that.

Loved it !

When you have a group of mid 20 somethings covering their eyes and cringing at a scene, something has gone very wrong.

just to put it out there,
TIM BURTON HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH CORALINE.

henry selick directed nightmare before christmas, and he directed coraline. they just didn't mention the director of the nightmare before christmas is him in coraline's trailer because they knew more people would watch it if they thought it was burton.

so blame henry selick for the outrageous pasties problem, not Tim Burton.

Thanks for the heads up

. I don't really pay attention to ads on TV and the other day my 5 year old was talking about how she wantwed to see a movie called "coraline". We never go to the theater, so I had assumed it was an older movie and she was wanting me to rent it or something. Sounds like more of a movie for me than her hahaha

I saw the movie Coraline with my children ages 11, 13 and 16. It creeped my 16 year old out but not my two girls. This is a horror movie for kids so yeah, it is a bit scary.

The nude scene is so brief that I am not certain that it is that bad. It is sort of cartoony and the woman is not really the type that would cause a young boy to be sexually excited. None of my kids even commented.

this isn't a movie for young children but I wouldn't rule it out for older kids.

I too love Burton (I don't think he has issues, he's just tapping into the dark side most of us have even in small doses;) but we did see Coraline and I was very worried during parts of it for my youngest.
