I got an issue of Game bird Gazette in the mail today, finally. It is the spring issue though. Anyway, there is an article in it about a new mutant breed of Mexican Speckled Bobwhite called the "snowflake". Mr. Armstrong breeds them in Alabama, he states in this article that he has been breeding quail for years and this mutation showed up and he has successfull bred 4 generations of them and the color stays true. They are not crossed with a regular bobwhite to achieve this color, Mexican speckled bred to Mexican Speckled only. The way I take it is he is the only one who has these rare Snowflakes. Well the reason I am so interested in this is I bought 10 Mexican Speckled adults in early spring this year at a poultry swap and hatched their eggs, out of about 50 chicks I have 5 of the "Snowflakes" myself. They are beautiful birds and I intend on trying to breed them myself to see if they stay true. So, I am wondering if anyone else has these? I did not really think they were anything special until I read this article, these were my first mexican speckled quail and I really knew nothing about them, I just though they were nice looking birds. So are they that special? You can see what they look like on his website www.gunrunnergundogs.com I look forward to hearing from anyone else that may have them, or your comments on them. Thanks

My Understanding Is That Snow Flakes Are Not A New Mutation--- As They Have Been Around And Available To The General Public For Many Years. Perhaps He Has Developed It In A Subspeces? Like Ga Giant Or Jumbo Northern?

I don't know, I did a google search and could not find out much at all. I did find an eggbid ad on the search, they were selling a pair for $100. He sells pairs for $85. I am still trying to find out more info.

Cant Say For Sure.... But I Do Know That Both Eggbid And Ebay Have Been Flooded With Snowflake Bob Eggs For A Few Years.... I Wonder If He's Got A New Or Larger Strain? Please Keep Us Informed Of Any Info You Find! (sorry I Have An Addiction For Bantam Chicken Sized Quail Breeds...)

I also am hatching out some Mexican and also have some snowflake quail eggs in incubator, all are to be hatching out tomorrow, hoping they are true as were told
