The Nice Rooster/Cockerel Thread

I have 6 roos right now. All of them are good boys, but the stand-out is Mr Goober. He's the son of my most gregarious hen and my smartest roo. He's a big clown; he figured out pretty early on that being silly gets him lots of attenion. When he gets really excited, his little rooster dance ramps up and eventually morphs into drumming his feet really fast while howling lol.

Here he is trying to give me a grape.

Aww! I love it when my boys try to feed me. Especially when they're trying to let me know about a treat I just gave them. I'd also love to see a video of that dance!

Looking endearing while standing on the bread so the hens can’t get it:

So patient while this strange creature carries him around:

He is so sweet! And he's got lovely Spurs! It's so nice that they curl up like that. (As long as they don't curl into his leg)

That's the biggest issue I have with our alpha rooster, Arslan... His Spurs grow straight out, so we have to keep trimming/filing them so he doesn't stab the ladies. He put an abdominal wound into one of our hens by tap dancing on her back when she said no... Unintentional stabby stabby.

Oh no! I have seen Willow before and did not know he died. Sorry for your loss! Snuggling with an infant proves that he was a really awesome rooster.
He really was an amazing boy. He'd puddle on the ground with my son and make the, "I found a good nest spot" noise while snuggling with him, and they'd share plantain leaves... Like my son was his chick... Alex would be grabbing fistfuls of feathers and drooling on him, and Willow would just coo in response. When he went to live on the farm, Alex looked for him in the yard everyday for a week.

Whenever a hawk came by, once all the ladies were safe hiding under the blackberries, he'd step out into the middle of the yard and growl at the hawk. He sounded like a Velociraptor. He was so big, the hawk didn't dare come into the yard. The look on its face was like, "I don't know what that is, but I can't take it". Whereas Arslan has fought off Hawks, we didn't have a single one dare come into the yard while Willow lived with us.

This is Rettle (2 yrs), Porcelain d’Anvers. He’s very insistant with trying to get me to hold him or sit on my lap. If I don’t pick him up right away, he circles around me, and pulls at my clothes, until I finally pick him up. Then he falls asleep in my arms. I love this sweet little guy a lot. ❤️

He looks like he’d be good friends with these guys..

I have one little cockerel who is around 21 weeks now! He is quite afraid of me but is an absolute darling when being held. I often cuddle him at night as I can easily grab him. He is super gentle with his hens and almost no scuffles have occurred. He is an Appenzeller Spitzhauben, but not very standard haha. I love his messy punk hairdo. His crow sounds like one of those rubber screaming chickens 😂
Oooo, a Rhino Roo! What a cutie!

Aw Odie is adorable! I have two boys, Ledo and Benny. They are both sweet, Benny is very skittish but Ledo is just like a dog...Loves scratches and likes his wattles rubbed. He also doesn't mind being picked up. But both are super sweet to their girls. Benny can be a little intense and will chase his girls around the yard tho😅

This is my nice boy. (Obviously from my profile pic.) He looks like a standard-size version of Odie ☺️. He's a Speckled Sussex / Rhode Island Red cross. He was hatched out by one of my favorite Speckled Sussex hens, Corky, who would go hatch out chicks in the woods every year (RIP).

He does everything a flock boss should do; he finds treats for his hens, is nice to us, and I usually shake the bag of goodies and he'll come over and I'll give them all to him, but he rarely eats them, just tidbits the hens over and watches his girls eat them all. He's nice to chicks and our dogs as well, so I've been really happy with him.
