But there is a little side story,
back in january I went to this lady who had a bunch of chicks for sale, and I went there cuz I wanted to get some Marans, which I supposedly did, I got 4 of them, so as they grew up I notice that all of them had pea combs and not straight combs like Marans do. So I was like oh well I'll probably still get a somehow dark egg.
As they grew up I started to get suspicious of them and started to think that maybe they could be Easter eggers, but they had a clean face so I kind of disgarded that.
Well Yesterday one of them laid her first egg and I was super excited because it was a green egg!
But today was the huge surprise when I went to pick them up and I found an Olive egg that the same hen laid!!!!!! YAy I guess she didnt ge the coloring right the first time around!
This is a not so good picture of the first and her second egg!

Anyone here do wheaten ameraucanas and french black copper maran crosses? I have both and I am considering crossing them for olive eggers in the future. Wondering what the results are on egg color and if anyone has photos of how the offspring look?

Thanks!

Stone Cottage,

I crossed my silver and my white Ameraucana hens with a Black Copper Marans roo to try for olive eggs. I'm still growing the offspring out so I can't help out on the egg color but I can tell you that they look just like bc marans hens with black bodies and copper hackles (they have more copper than my real marans hens have though) and have peacombs, muffs, and beards like my Ameraucanas. Most have lighter feathering on the legs than my marans and a couple have no feathering on the legs.

Hi there,
I am new to the thread and I am thinking about starting an Olive-egger project. I still need to read the entire thread. I just have a question. Would a first generation Olive-egger roo be of any use? He is from a Black Copper Marans momma and a Araucana father. He has a pea comb and is maturing rapidly. Just curious if I might be able to use him. He is quite the looker so far. I need to get to reading this thread. Thanks for any opinions.

I am looking for an EE roo and I was "told" this was the place to check:) I've got 2 hens that are laying but 6 girls that are about 2 months old, so I'm hoping for a young roo, but not being extremely picky. Whether free or for sale, it doesn't mattter

Does anyone know where I could get one?

Cyn, she's gorgeous! I just got my first Wheaten Marans egg yesterday... and it was fertile! She's with my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana roo, Claude so as soon as she starts laying consistently I'll hopefully be setting some of her eggs in hopes of Wheaten Olive Eggers of my own.

Well my friend has stuck 11 of "my" future Olive Eggers under a broody! I am so excited to see how they turn out! (And to test Sherman's fertility.)
Daddy is my fabulous Blue Copper Marans "Sherman". Mamas are a love blue EE and a basic brown EE. My friend is keeping the babies, but promises to keep me posted.
