Things you wish you could say

I texted my neighbor who is part owner of one of the bee hives on this last Wednesday to let her know that the bee club meeting is the second Wednesday this month because of the 4th holiday. I added, "Call me if you want to hear what's going on in the hive. Too much to text."

I wish I could say that she has since called me and we had a wonderful discussion about the bees. But this is what I got:

🦗 (I think this is a grasshopper. Pretend it's a cricket.)

I wish I could say that my big hermie, Hampton, did not pass away this morning. I do not understand what happened, all I know is that he is gone, and I am so sad to see him go. He was not the most social of crabbies, but he loved hanging out with me and his little girlfriend. Had him for 2 years, and he was always very healthy. I was very excited, waiting for him to come up from his molting to meet his new family, but alas, it shall never be. 😔😢

You sure it's dead? Those things sometimes look dead but aren't

Yeah. He had completely abandoned his shell (it was not stuck anywhere, and was easily accessible), and curled up next to his water dish. When I found him, he did not have any smell to him (yes, I sniffed him). When I still was unsure, I gently probed his antenna and eye stalks. Nothing. I brought him outside to bury him, and he was only then starting to have the stinky ocean smell. This is exactly how I found him, but obviously he was in his tank.

No signs of having been dragged out of his shell by his new family; the sand around him and his shell only had his footprints. It is like he died either trying to get a drink, or after he had already drank. The real pain of it was that if I had gone straight to the tank after waking up rather than going downstairs to use the bathroom, I probably would have been holding him when he died. 😔😢
