Things you wish you could say

Hey Peeps!

TL;DR: Political and politically charged contend will no longer be allowed on BYC.

As most of you know, there has been tremendous political and social intensity recently... and heading into the US election, we're expecting things to only amplify from here.

On BYC we strive for complete neutrality with regards to these issues. We work hard to allow our members the flexibility to post all manner of topics and discussions. That said, we've found some topics become heated, contentious, and create a situation that isn't healthy for our members or our community. Very often our report system is flooded by flagged content which then requires our amazing moderators to spend countless hours sorting through the content.

With all that in mind, our team has decided to change our stance from "discouraging" political and politically charged content to disallowing content that is political or politically charged.

Notes Regarding This Change:

  1. Sometimes peeps complain that we're silencing their freedom of speech. BYC is a privately owned website (by me :) ), so it might be helpful to view BYC as a home in which you've been invited (as a member) to come inside for a visit. You may not like how we've decorate the place, or that we ask you to leave your shoes (strong politically charged opinions) at the door before you come in. We totally understand. It's totally your choice to not come inside out house... just like it's our choice to determine what kind of behavior we'll tolerate inside our home.
  2. Our amazing and diverse team will do their best to determine which content is "political or politically charged". It's impossible to draw a PERFECT line between what is and isn't "politically charged", but our team will discuss any that are in the "gray area" and make a judgement call" as best we can, with the goal to keep the community humming along as smoothly as possible. (We know we're doing a really good job being unbiased when both "sides" of an argument think we're being too strict and biased) ;)
  3. "Content" includes posts, pictures, avatars, signatures, etc.
  4. This new policy will be in place at least until the dust settles from the US election
  5. If someone posts something that you take issue with, either ignore it or report it. Do not start or engage in a fight. Remember to avoid feeding trolls!
  6. We understand many of our peeps are VERY passionate about their beliefs and perspective, and this can be exacerbated when a moderator takes action to something posted. If you receive a warning or reminder of this policy, and/or have content removed, please remember our rule against PUBLICLY questioning our rules and our moderation. You're welcome to contact any BYC moderator PRIVATELY with your questions, concerns, feedback, etc. Similar to the analogy above, imagine if you're invited into someone's home for a super-fun party, and start screaming at the hosts (in front of all the other peeps) about how much you hate the food that's been provided to you for FREE. Instead, it would be more appropriate to kindly and privately talk to the host (moderators) in private and start a productive dialog to express your thoughts, questions, and ideas. :)

A huge THANK YOU to all the amazing peeps visiting inside our "home" that respect our rules and the tone / demeanor we've decided is best for our group!
Hey everyone, a quick "bump" to this important thread.

... and a point of clarification:

While it's relatively easy to determine if most of the items reported to our moderators are considered "political or not", there are some that our members may argue are, in their opinions, not political.

We understand there is a LOT of bias and subjectivity around many topics, so we ask that our community respect that our team does our best to discuss the reports, and (as a committee) determine if we view a reported item as being "political" or against our rules.

We can't force (or even ask) that you agree with our final verdict, but we do require people who have joined our free and privately-owned community to respect whichever decision we make.

A huge THANK YOU to all the peeps that avoid posting divisive topics, signatures, etc., on BYC, and who support our incredible moderators and all the phenomenal work they do!
A reminder for those who may not be aware.
Political posts of any kind are not allowed on BYC.

Dogs I recon.
Neighbor seen two unknown dogs just behind my barn on the next property. Two good size holes torn into my big pen with my best keepers and lots of extra pullets.
Just a ton of dead birds staked in two piles inside the pen and some scattered around dead outside of it.
So sorry!

They're doing fine but my ones from earlier this year not so much....
Things you wish you could say.....
That I didn't come home today and find just shy of 100, yes 100 dead birds.
This is a large part of the reason I have begun to seriously dislike dogs. I know that it's the bad owners who let them run loose and let them bark endlessly, but my emotions are still negative when I see a dog now.

I'm so sorry that you lost so many good birds. I hope you find the owners and they at the very least pay you for them.

It's really sad that people can be so easily confused.
A ton of companies are announcing price hikes on consumer goods across the board, starting soon to "offset future costs".

It's the very last thing my family needs. Our budget is already tight. This is going to mean going without some stuff.
Yeah. It's gonna screw me over too. My hobby is already expensive and I don't want to be paying $600 for a Celeron.

People in the farming areas here let their dogs loose. I'm quite concerned as I am probably going to be living in those areas soon, and I have seen those dogs eating chickens.

I really dislike the way people treat their animals here. Even in this neighborhood, dogs are really dangerous. I ride my bike, and I've seen someone's stupid Yorkie run out into the street to chase me, nearly getting run over in the process, and the same thing happen the next day. I've found the same stupid dog at the corner of the street, far from its house, and every time I ride by there it's in the front yard with the gate open (not like that matters, it's small enough to squish through the gaps) and without a leash. I want to tell the people off next time I find him at the corner, but they seem to not know very much English.
Another dog is a poodle. It is worse than the Yorkie. It ran right in front of my bike from behind a bush and I nearly ran over it.

I avoid both streets but I really want to scream in both owners' faces about being responsible for their pets.

Oh that is awful. So sorry.

BYC needs a autobot that replies to "why are my notifications not working for this thread" with a message telling you that you either did not click on the notification for your thread in the alerts or that you unwatched the thread.
The most common reason is that you got an alert and did not finish reading the thread. You will not get a new alert until you get caught up on the thread and a new message gets posted.

As long as you are not caught up, you will not get a new alert.

Rather than relying on alerts go to your watched threads. Any watched threads that you are not caught up on will show in bold.
