Yesterday I received a present in the mail. I haven't been able to speak to my friends in Beijing for 2 months now because they're away for work, and I've been missing them horribly. Yesterday I got a package with a European addy on it and was like . Because it was addressed to Lin Kai. No one in Europe calls me that. So I opened it, and my friend V had sent me a book that reminded him of me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, everyone! I know that I can be a right pain in the butt here, but I'd like to say thank you all for being such amazing people, and I pray that every one of you has a blessed, happy, healthy New Year!

I didn't either. Things have just been too tight the last few years. Luckily, the people I care about don't worry about stuff like that.

Umm, mine don't turn out quite like that.

A very, very long time ago I worked for a department store (my first job) and I ended up doing gift wrapping during December because I could cut paper straight and make a package look nice.

My mom, being very Japanese taught me how to wrap properly when I was a child because in Japan how something is presented is almost more important than the present.

I did not neglect spraying the shrubs with deer repellent, and the deer did not prune my azaleas.


A day late and a dollar short, they've been sprayed now.

My GC's nearly 6-mo old puppy with cement for brains (Aussie) did not get hold of one of my chickens today. Fortunately he did not hurt her, he just wants to hold one like he does his soft stuffed animals, but it's been raining for days so she was cold and wet. She objected. He will get more schooling, obvi!

Thank you! I don't know the regular traditions of New Year's because for me it comes with bread pudding and diet pepsi (yup! I live on the wild side. ), but I hope you and yours have a blast celebrating!

I'll be making a pot of black-eyed peas, it's supposed to bring good luck and prosperity to eat them on New Year's Day and besides I just really like them and they were a childhood tradition. Sadly my children are not crazy about them so they will probably nuke themselves a hot dog, lol.
