Things you wish you could say

This is what is so stupid to me. They are meat birds, let people get them, for whatever reason
It is. They're gonna place 100s in pet homes and those people are probably gonna be clueless like Blue mentioned. That's gonna be a train wreck in itself.
The majority they won't find homes for faster then they'll grow.
There's gonna a ton left when they start have leg issues and heart troubles. Once they all start being crippled or dead they'll end up euthanizing the rest.
Some people over there need a good throat punch and a talking to.

Once they all start being crippled or dead they'll end up euthanizing the rest.

Of course it would be more efficient to just euthanize them now, instead of buying a bunch of food and hiring extra staff to care for them.

Or they could take the really cost-efficient way out and sell them to the people that want to buy them (the article said there were such people.)

But they are probably stuck with shelter policies, and I doubt they have any good way to get an exception for this situation. I wonder if they'll have to have each bird individually assessed by a vet before they can euthanize for health issues?

This makes me sick... Wish I could tell the shelter to just let people have them for meat chickens, that's what they are bred for!

They seem to be mostly freedom ranger meat birds, while not as bad as trying to rehome Cornish crosses to pet only homes, they honestly shouldn't be all that picky. Almost everyone who wants freedom rangers wants them for meat, not as pets. At this rate it's going to go from a bad time to a worse time 'cause they're only going to be more expensive and more work to keep as they get older

They sort of acknowledge that:
"One concern for the shelter, Parana explained, was the increasing demand for space and feed over time, as Freedom Rangers take about ten weeks to reach maturity."

But if they think the birds will quit growing at 10 weeks, they are in for a big surprise. That is the butchering age, not "maturity" in the sense the any pet-owner might expect. Those birds will keep growing for another 6+ months if they aren't butchered.

Very true, I hope they are aware of that and the article just wasn't very clear but if they indeed aren't aware that they'll keep growing then they will be in for a very rude awakening. I can appreciate them wanting to give chickens the same treatment as their other animals but how they're going about it is in the most harebrained manner. There are simply not going to be enough pet only homes for all those birds especially since statistically half of them are going to be cockerels which are difficult to rehome at all at the best of times, never mind rehoming to a pet only home. They're going to learn some hard lessons on the reality of chickens, I just hope they realize it in time to properly help those birds

I wish I could say that FedEx/ups didn't screw up and leave someone's package at my place. The delivery address isn't even on my street and of course there's no contact info on the thing and I have no idea who the person is or where they are. Hopefully someone comes for it in the coming days

Oh and of course they left the package in front of the tree in front of the driveway in full view of the road rather than on the porch. Such a thing is just asking for porch pirates to come steal it
I've left packages outside of the gate before. I always try to get the furiously barking dog in the picture too so they can see why I didn't go to the porch, though. Then I report to Amazon that I didn't deliver to the recommended location due to a safety issue.
