Zebras are meaner than you'd think. Think about it, in the wild they have to survive against lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and wild dogs among other things. You won't survive in such an environment long without having some serious moxie and there's a reason people generally don't ride themI remember once when l was little, there was a circus train stuck on the tracks, right behind the houses down our street. We got to go and see the animals. The circus people let the elephants and giraffes out into a field to graze and we got to pet them. They didn't let us pet the zebras, said they would bite our fingers off
I knew all this. I wasn't disappointed that we couldn't pet them. Just found it interesting that they would bite that hardZebras are meaner than you'd think. Also fun fact, zebras are more closely related to donkeys than horses
Equine bites can be surprisingly nasty, while I'm sure they were being hyperbolic, I'm sure they could take off fingers or otherwise do serious damage if they were ticked off enough and got a good bite inI knew all this. I was at a horse show once (very small town) and a teenage girl came up and started petting and sweet-talking my two-year old half-Arab in the next stall while I was grooming another horse. I didn't think anything of it till she started quietly dancing around and whispering, Ow, ow, my fingers. I looked over and for some reason she had stuck her fingers in the filly's mouth and now the horse thought they made a great toy. I stood there and glared at the child for a bit till I figured she had learned something, then went over and offered the horse a handful of sweet feed to distract her. She left, both smarter and smarting.Equine bites can be surprisingly nasty, while I'm sure they were being hyperbolic, I'm sure they could take off fingers or otherwise do serious damage if they were ticked off enough and got a good bite in
When I was about 6, there was a pony next to a grocery store. My mom left me to play with the pony while she went shopping, and I gave the pony some grass, but since I didn't know any better, I didn't offer it on a flat palm. One of the tips of my fingers is still a bit flatter than the other because the pony wanted the grass and my fingers were in the way.I was at a horse show once (very small town) and a teenage girl came up and started petting and sweet-talking my two-year old half-Arab in the next stall while I was grooming another horse.
