This part of owning animals is the worst part !

Taken in broad day light! My money is on a two legged predator. Fox or raccoon couldn't have taken both at once. Do you have homeless people in your neighborhood? Look before you run out there, they will kill you as soon as look at you.

WOW what a thought......each lot is 5 acres.only boarded horses behind us........ my dogs were out .......they usually warn me of peoples.......makes me sick............. hoping the guinea will show up since I only found Mr Roo feathers..........there was a trail of broken feathers for a while.then nothing.....didnt see any human footprints at all. I don't usually walk back there ,only the horse prints were showing?and it was wooded enough that I don't think a hawk would be there and besides that,it would have to be a huge hawk, Mr Roo was large......but passive ,which is why I liked him so much............... we do have coyotes run around here in broad daylight since OKC is moving closer and closer, I am so ready to move to open land...........I have never seen a raccoon or fox here either...

So sorry about your mr roo and keet. I have come to find here that in broad day light it is a hawk or a dog. So I would be keeping an eye out for a dog. It will be back if thats what it was.

Again so sorry.

I'm with Cindy. It will be back if it was an animal. They remember were the free food is.

Sorry about your loss. I had my fingers crossed all nite until I got up this morning and read on here that you found alot of feathers.

How sad. We've been going through that dissapearing act, too, but had one hen come back; she was just setting in a hidden place! We've found no feathers; nothing for the others. We lost three who were chicks of my favorite Whitey roo...I am getting tired of running out there when there are distress calls, cause lots of times it's a false alarm, or you see nothing.

I read somewhere on this site from someone experienced in this sort of thing that birds of prey will pluck a chicken, which is why there are feathers but nothing else.

What an awful thought; to anyone with chicken experience, did I interpret this correctly? That feathers with no other telltale signs indicates some sort of raptor?

Well. I found just feathers and somewhat of a trail.it ended quickly and it really didnt look like roo was dragged anywhere....... I did let the rest out for a short time today.........with my dogs in tow and a gun by my side. Neighbor had spotted a coyote a few times the past week. so I am betting on that too..... I do have a neigbors dog that roams every single night.have yet to see it during the day.........was tempted to camp out on my porch tonight with the dog food bowl and shot it! I am so sick of it.... my hens don't know what to do.......... I miss my Mr Roo.

I have had similar luck lately, and I always set a live trap the night after I lose something, even if I lose it during the day. So far I have always caught a raccoon the next night, as I did last night. People are highly unlikely, but there are many creatures that hunt for food and most birds are delicious!
Raccoons are so plentiful, I never count them out as a potential predator, even during the day. That said, I still am expecting to find a nighborhood dog, a coyote, a housecat, or a hawk also. Several daytime disappearances have me suspicious those coons have help!.
