Thistlewick Smallholding - Chickens (for now)

Beautiful! Are you thinking about getting additional farm animals? That view needs some sheep.

I want goats next. Specifically for milk and cheese. I just don't have the time yet! I still have a long time before I can think of retiring.
Yes I'm supposed to get 4 sheep from the lady we got our Border Collie from!

But hasn't happened yet mostly because I am super nervous about adding BIG animals!!!

I am worried about them getting on this lush field and getting bloat >< in general I am just super worried haha

Aww I get that. I always do a ton of research and try to get hands on experience before I get any animal. I researched chickens 3 years before finally getting chicks. (Probably overkill). Maybe there's someone in your area with sheep you can shadow to make you more comfortable?

The ducklings absolutely killing the 'lets be adorable and sit in the buttercups'

the view from my henhouse stoop, which I sit on in the warmer months at roost time and enjoy chicken TV My pastures looking ratty and fat, I need grazers!!
Beautiful photos, ❤️ how are the new babies this morning? 🐥🐤

They are sleeeeeping a lot but that's okay and are drying out!!

I THINK the hen from the lighter chick (Falcon) is Dorothy, our BLR Wyandotte - bc it has a rose/pea comb and the egg it hatched from was tan.

Cracker is Sophia's baby, bc I grabbed her egg from the nest to put in the incubator right after she laid it lol

They look pretty dry, I'd get them out for some water and food now. Cuteness overload there! ❤️

Right after chicken chores I went and got the little ones out of the incubator, they felt sturdy and sure. I transported them in the box I got from Tractor Supply with the 6 easter eggers they were going to join.

After a little surprised investigating, some intense beak pecking (which we quickly googled was completely normal) and some chastising (gently) of the older chicks, everyone settled in.

Took all of about 10 minutes;
