TikTok ban?

I don’t like getting involved in these topics, but did want to put in my two cents .

Mind you, I know nothing about this whole situation except that TikTok is based in China and is highly addictive. My opinion is based off those two facts:

I think the Chinese government is hoping that our young people become so addicted to TikTok that they would prefer to have it rather than defend their country.

You can see that with the literal breakdowns people are having…I have read that people are even calling 911 about losing access!

Even if China is not by some chance using TikTok to spy on us, they’re using it to destroy the minds of our population. It’s almost a form of psychological warfare.

So yes, I think TikTok and all other sites from hostile countries should be banned. Also, from my understanding, China does not allow their citizens access to our social media. So why should we allow our citizens access to theirs?

I've found that YouTube isn't the best at giving me the content I want, and the people there are so much less toxic. If I'm ever doom scrolling, it's YouTube. I deleted Instagram because it was making me so negative.

Youtube has a lot of the content I love on it. I've learned tons from it.

I completely agree with you, but am too afraid to say it. I usually get yelled at or in trouble for that sort of thing, and no one believes me.

Interesting take! I hadn't thought about the free speech aspect. Is it more open to things than Instagram? Insta was getting seriously ridiculous.

I am against the tik tok ban. First of all, I do not, and never have used tik tok. But banning it was wrong. China makes the majority of our electronics, they already spy on us. Loads of people have an Alexa or a Siri that listens to everything they say. And the vast majority of people have cell phones and they absolutely listen into your conversations. So, the "China spying on us" view is moot. Plus, I believe that people need to make up their own minds on what to believe or not believe. If they get away with banning tik tok, where will the banning stop? Give them an inch and they will take a mile
