I was thinking it'd probably be around $10-$30 for backyard mix pullets based on what i see in forums but knowing our area is hard but having a good base on what people usually sell for helps me alot. I'm not to worried about cockerels. In general I have a friend nearby who raises alot of birds and she harvests and sells the meat as either food or pet food. She said she can take in any unwanted cockerel/roosters for harvest. She actually took our almost 2 year old rooster and later on gave us a cockerel she thought was to pretty to be harvested. I will give them a chance to find a new flock but at some point I have to draw the line.In our area for barnyard mixes, sexed pullets that are laying or close to lay will usually go for about $20-$25. Purebreds are more, depending on the breed. Mixed breed cockerels are free and even then, sometimes there aren’t takers. I gave away all of my cockerels last summer, even the purebreds that hatched from shipped eggs from show breeders. But I feel like our market is really over saturated, at least last summer it seemed to be.
I have considered buying/building a cheap shelter and doing a free range flock with the extras but we have high fox and hawk pressure. While I'm not sensative to it my mother is. So more than likely I'll see about setting a cut off date for winter to let her have them for whatever she wants to do with them.
