Too much calcium

FMI ONLY 🤔 y a separate thread. Am I in the wrong place/thread. 😎🥴JA
Suggested forum etiquette is to start a new post of your own on the appropriate subforum if you have questions or issues, not to ask your questions on someone else's thread.

Reason is it derails from the original question and can pull help away from the person who originally asked for it.

OK, I understand edicquett. The title of this thread is "TO MUCH CALCIUM ". My comments were regarding this exact topic. 🤔🤔👍🥴JS. SORRY IF I STEPPED ON SOMEONES TOES.

I'm in my 2nd week of clucking with my 5girls. Since day 1, they have made great advances with their new home, bedtime 7pm auto door closes at 8pm,opens at 6am their out an eating breakfast (layer pellets) an treats (scratch). I have retrieved 4eggs so far, 2white and 2brown ,they look and act happy and stress free.
There's been alot of talk about Calcium. When do they need it and how much do I give them??🤔🤔🐓🐔🥚
Welcome To BYC

It doesn't sound like you are having an issues with your pullets at this time.
Your question is When do you need Calcium and how much to give.

Usually if you feed a nutritionally balanced poultry feed (layer, all flock, etc.) and provide supplemental oyster shell free choice, it shouldn't be necessary to offer emergency or therapeutic/crisis dosing of Extra Calcium.

Feeding back egg shells is one way of giving your girls supplemental calcium to help give them a boost. But it's always a good idea to also provide Oyster Shell free choice, just place a small amount in a cup/container inside your coop/run, the girls will take a few pieces here and there as they need it.

Hope this helps.

I made this yesterday from store bought eggs. Is it look OK🤔👍View attachment 4125113View attachment 4125111

Crushing up and feeding eggs shells is less waste?

Nah...they don't need both. Just provide the oyster shell.

If you're having to buy eggs to get egg shells, then why not buy oyster shell, you don't have to dry and carefully store OS like you do egg shells.

OK, if my girls provide us (me and my wife) with at least 1egg each x 5hens,I wouldn't need to continue purchasing (before the hen arrived) 36pack of eggs from Casco once a month. What I want to understand is that, it sounds like most of everyone has said OYSTER,OYSTER OYSTER SHELLS is better/best to provide as a supplement.
When needed or not 🥴🥴🤔

Eh, you can try it without and see how it goes.

Hey man, it's up to you. You've been given the information to keep your pullets/hens fairly healthy and productive; it's up to you to do with it as you wish. There's a lot of information on this site, you can search and come to a good conclusion on you're own or you can also use the web, look up poultry research and nutrition articles, they can be a great source of information:

Nutritionally balanced poultry feed, oyster shells/supplemental calcium, grit (crushed granite), fresh water, shelter from the elements, protection from predators.
