Hello! I am a new chicken owner and recently learned about the benefits of oregano essential oil for chickens. What I did not realize is that I think I gave them too much in their water and now I’m panicked that I’ve caused more harm than good. My pullets are 13 weeks and I gave them 2 drops/ 8 cups of water. Have I totally messed up?! Will they be okay?
EDIT TO ADD:
She’s been sneezing since 1 week old and we can’t figure out what it is. She’s been tested twice for mycoplasma and it keeps coming back negative. Now she’s started honking like a goose when she sneezes. So that’s why I tried the oregano oil.

This past week (after giving the oil) she hasn’t been acting like her normal curious self. She’s eating, drinking and still very active but is now holding her tail down and having variety of odd droppings. I’ll attach pictures of droppings. She had three back to back runny droppings within just a few minutes. I thought maybe cecal but the color and frequency made me question it. I’m wondering if her behavior/ odd droppings could be related to the essential oil? Or could it be coccidiosis? Or maybe somethings else? I’m not sure what’s going on.

Don't worry about it you'll be fine.

Give them some fresh, plain water. Let their systems flush, naturally. I give oregano oil (1 drop per gallon) or apple cider vinegar (1 Tablespoon in 3 gallon waterer) infrequently. Only when they've been stressed - like when I introduced the pullets to the hens. I also add dried garden oregano to their dust bath and nests, along with purchased, nesting herbs. The oils help repel some bugs and they smell nice

thank you!

If she's the only one sneezing it's probably not anything infectious... she may just be sensitive to dust or be eating too quickly and inhaling dust/bits of food.

The poop pics don't look too bad. The yellow-brown, slimy stuff is cecal poop and looks normal. The middle one is a little watery and bubbly, but lots of things could cause that. Maybe just some mild irritation in the digestive tract from the oil or something else she ate. I'd give it a few days to clear up on it's own before starting to worry. A bit of yogurt mixed in with the food can help keep the digestive tract healthy if given in moderation and be a nice treat (giving it too much or too often can also cause digestive upset).

If the poops continue to be consistently off or you're worried about the sneezing and want more opinions/advice I'd start a new thread asking about those symptoms.

Photo of the chick and the bottle of this oil please, thank you!

Organo Essential Oil or Oil of Oregano?

A video of her honking/sneezing would be good too. Upload your video to youtube and provide a link.

At 13wks, holding the tail down, mucousy droppings, just acting off - I'd treat for Coccidosis.
Treat all the chicks.
Corid can be found in most feed stores.
Liquid Corid dose is 2tsp or Powdered Corid dose is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water.
Give at the only source of drinking water. Don't add any extra supplements or vitamins that contain B1(Thiamine) to feed or water during the course of treatment.

Looks like normal poops. What’s your bedding? Maybe it’s too dusty?
