New water heater arrived and is installed! I went with a bird bath deicer this time because I hate cleaning buckets with cords attached to them. We'll see how it performs...

same! when i seen extended forecast i cringed. Heres a pic i took today. hopefully this will do the trick too! last week at 14 degrees, it was hanging freely. That rubber bucket is filled with as much ‘matter’ as I could stuff under there View attachment 4009023

In your photo is your bedding straw? Doesn't the chicken manure cause it to pack down?

The picture is in the run. In the winter the entire run has about 2-4 inches of Hay to offer insulation. Any day we dont free range, I'll toss some more hay in. In the spring I will rake it all out. I have 5 hens in this run so their manure is a non issue. Their bedding material is hemp.

Hemp is great, Chicken approved Check it out! I appreciate how I can use a cat litter box scooper to easily remove droppings. i added a long handle for easier collection.
