Tweetie, the one legged wonder~ *Story of a disabled chick, pic heavy*

Her skin healed under the feet before they fell off it was really strange. Her toes were rock hard. I love my little Margaret, and she is a survivor for sure! :D

Thanks!

I love Tweetie too. I love the name :)

Yeah, she got her name because she would never stop peeping and clucking when we had her in the house when she was young, and we had many names. XD We switched it from Jesse, to another name.. then decided she was "Tweetie" because she talks so much.

She's beautiful :) Has she, or do you think she will start to lay soon?

I hear Welsummers lay really pretty eggs. <3

Ah, yes, I never answered your question on whether she is a girl yet... well, I researched it a bit, and most roosters start crowing at 3 - 5 months, and Tweeties 6 months and we haven't heard more than a peep or a tweet out of her. XD No, I don't know if she'll ever lay. If she does, it would be so awesome! But since her leg is so messed up, it might cause her to not lay. But who knows!

I've had roosters wait 8 months.

Maybe it will be a boy who never crows - you can keep a rooster if he doesn't crow right?

To me Tweetie looks like a boy.. Mostly because of the colour. Welsummer females aren't so blotchy and have a different pattern to them. I don't want to bum you out. I want to be wrong.

Ah, yes, I do see what you mean. I didn't know they could wait to be 8 months to crow... I had read everyone saying before 6 months. She honestly doesn't act like a rooster, from what i see. I hope she isn't. If it is a he, and she doesn't crow, we can keep her... if not.... :(

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw those pictures. "She" looks a lot like a he. I love the picture with the crazy eye look though, it made me crack up

I have my fingers crossed for a boy who doesn't crow..
I had one. George. He was 6 years old and never crowed once in his life.

I'm so glad that Tweetie is doing well and that you gave her a chance by working with her. Have found out for me self that most ppl dont care for chickens in my area where I live. Cause, I've been crushed with little hope from the vets when my rooster Chirpy got limber neck. They told me he might not make it that weekend and it would be best to have him put down I couldn't do it b/c he was a surviver. He did make it and then the vet told me she would help me work with him. It took alot of work but chirpy keeping hanging in their and then he gotten must better. Due to this hatching process(longer story) he not quite right but, he's got his head held high, crows and ejoying being a rooster to this day. And the same goes for Margaret! These chickens are telling us not to give up cause they are not giving up.:)
