Hi! I was wondering if anyone here has experience raising guineas.

My friend got 10 guinea hens and she's been keeping them in a metal trough with a heat lamp in a well-built shed room. As far as I can tell, she isn't doing anything wrong. But one of the hens stopped growing and went lame so she put it out of its misery when it was clearly on its way out. Now she has another one going lame, but it's the same size as the others. Is this a deficiency issues? Some of their feathers look rough too. She has all flock raiser crumble, and I gave her chick boost to give to them but it doesn't seem to be helping.

Any tips would be very appreciated! Thank you.

Poultry Cell or human Polyvisol 2-3 drops daily, 1/4 tablet of human super B complex vitamins crushed into a spoonful of water, or other chick vitamins that contain riboflavin could be helpful if their is a riboflavin deficiency. If the chicks are nit eating, then it might be coccdiiosis. Corid is good for treatment, but if using Corid, the vitamins should be stopped until Corid is finished. Corid dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid, or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5 days.

Thank you! I sent this to my friend 👍

What nutrition does the guinea feed have? I had limping guinea keets last summer and I selected DuMor Duck feed, 20% protein. It also has B vitamins and aminos that ducks need to keep their leg and foot issues at bay.

A very knowledgeable guinea keeper is on BYC, let us tag @R2elk . R2elk was very helpful last year.
