Utah!

Way to go for checking it out! You are soo brave :yiipchick That is good , now we can not worry so much bad things were going on there.....chicken neighborhood watch at your service lol! Don't mess with our chickens! Love it :D

I actually tried to get on here a sec ago, and the page said "unavailable, the traffic exceeds the capacity of the website". Wow!! Probably us on the Utah thread weighing it all down :) I am betting with more and more people getting into chickens, this will need to be updated again soon. Hope they do not change our format again! Three people on my street built coops in the last two months. Out of the 26 houses closest to us 11 have chickens. Too funny---except I will not be selling eggs for long, not on my street anyway :)

Aw, that's so sad about Kirk's momma and calf

I'd be upset, too.

Hey, so I tacked up a thread over on the gender/breed forum to see if anyone has guesses on that little Wyandotte that I got from Lisa. Feel free to check it out, if anyone wants: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/658965/lady-gent-place-your-bets

LOL..yep, that would be me, I have rescued dogs..I guess I am a chicken neighborhood watch person now..you will laugh at this. I got a phone call from my neighbor lady behind us. She says, Cynthia, there is a chicken in the street. Is it one of yours? I had to run into the house to answer the phone, so I was pretty sure it wasn't because I was just out with my girls, but I knew of a neighbor down the street that had been missing two chickens. Long story short..I caught it. Took some time, but caught it in a neighbors yard. And yes, it was the neighbor that was missing a couple of chickens. That poor hen was so skinny.

i always see those ads for fighting roosters and you can clearly tell they are used in cock fighting and cock fighting still happens a lot in utah, more than people think. its a sport in other countries so when people come here they just keep doing it because they see it as normal :( i see more and more of it every year. we as chicken owners need to keep an eye out and if we see an ad that does not look good we need to report it to animal services

Oh ya, I think these eggs of Sasha's will be autosexed too, that would be nice! Crele is autosexed from what I understand...comes from Red breasted bred to barred. But I have no idea which will be which. Sasha do you know?

Sorry! Been running around all day like a chicken with it's head cut off.... (snort!) My youngest (14) has a bad sinus infection so had her to the doctor, ran to the pharmacy, while we were in town we ran other errands, yada yada yada.
Yes, these chicks will be autosexed! Makes life easier. :) The barred chicks will follow the same barred rock rules. Females will be dark (mostly black) with a spot on their head, the roos will be lighter. The crele pullets will be red-brown and the crele roos will be white-ish. The breeder said in her 5 years of hatching these eggs, she has only had *2* barred colored males. Interesting.
She did get back with me just a little bit ago. Gave me some advice as to how she hatches shipped eggs (a little late for that?) but we followed pretty much the same rules. She said she's hatching almost 100% at home so fertility isn't a problem. She wants me to let her know how the hatch goes, but that it sounds like we are at about 50% (closer to 40 IMO) and that we are doing really good to get that.
Can I grumble?

I know shipped eggs are a gamble, I really do....but I really feel like all the infertile eggs we had are a lot.

OK, I'm done mumbling. I'm thinking I'm going to pick me up some hatching eggs from chickenstock!

I just got a dozen eggs for my broody Cochin! Just a random assortment of Black Star, (real) Ameraucana, Light Sussex hens to a Coronation Sussex rooster :weee I'm setting them tonight!

Kirk called...said he won't make it today, but tomorrow for sure. He lost both a mom and a baby calf today. He was pretty upset because it was one of his favorites too. He said he was trying to help, but the head got stuck and there was just no helping this little one out. They both died. How sad. He says, yes, that's one thing about having a farm...sad things happen. I know that much just from having my chickens. I've always said I would have loved the farm life, wonder if I could really do that.

So, so sad! :( I'm sorry for Kirk's losses. Oh, and Brad was it you that lost the parrot? I'm sorry for your loss as well. (I'm so far behind)

Cynthia, defender of chickens! You go, girl! We did Doberman rescue for several years, and sometimes we would take in a different breed here and there...took in a Pit Bull that "wasn't mean enough" after his owner dragged him down the backroads, trying to make him mean. Poor dog had no pads left on his feet, was skinned and bruised up so bad. We nursed him back to health and he was such a sweetheart. Found him a great home. I loathe anyone who uses animals at a painful demise for humans' pleasure.
