Very aggressive rooster

I like aggressive roosters. They protect the hens a lot better when they are. Just hold your ground and he will get the idea and stop.

There are usually signs at an early age that a rooster will be aggressive. When a rooster matures at 4 months or so you can watch how they treat the hens and other roosters. Aggression shows up early! If they are raping the hens instead of wooing them they should be culled. If they are already challenging older roosters they should be culled. If they show no respect for you and other humans they should be culled.
There are too many good roosters out there to put up with a bad one. And it's easier to love a good one than a bad one.

"Off with his head" says the queen! :th
What exactly is "raping the hens"?
I have very few roosters that started out with wooing. Usually an older hen will knock some sense into them a few times while they are still cockerels before they get how things should work in that regards.
If I culled for not wooing right of the bat I don't think I'd have any roosters.

I have recently adopted a paired chicken couple. I was told they were silkies, when I got there they were not. HOWEVER I could not justify leaving them the Rooster is a beautiful Bantam Cochin I think Partridge and the hen is a black Frizzle Bantam Cochin. He has been separated and is all by himself while I asses his personality. She is in bad shape and I will not allow a roo no matter is magnificence to be allowed to do this to my ladies. It does happen! Nor will I breed one with any of bad the traits listed in this thread.
F.jpg calling him Frankly cuz if he tries this again I will be Scarlet OHara!

We are calling her FreeTa, because here she will be Free ta grow her feathers back. A bad roo is a good stew. I will reserve judgement on him for now since it is un fair to keep a single pair in a small coop. Unless you are breeding them.

I only keep good roosters the one I have now takes treats from my hand drops them on the ground and calls his Ladies to come see what a great thing he has found for them. He is always looking for seeds or bugs for them and keeps the feral cats away. It doesnt hurt that he is also Beautiful outside too. That is the kind of Rooster you want to have and to breed. IMO.
20180304_134102.jpg This is my Good Rooster who does his job and does not see me as a threat and never threatens me or anyother humans.

Good luck with your decision it is not an easy one but it is a personal one.

I think so too they should have been separated along time before now. IMO she is hanging out in the house for now watching tv with us. I have been taking her outside to play in the duck play pen when the sun is not going to burn her but she is going to do ok I think. Once she is healed I will most likely breed her with Lulu Good boy! @puffypoo22 Sorry about your BombBomb.

The only human aggressive rooster that I have had did not protect the flock at all. If there was a non-human predator around, he was the first one in the run and straight into the coop.

You just need to show them who is the boss. I catch mine every once in a while just to remind to them. As long as they are taking care of the hens properly they get to live. I have one big Roo who is only 5 months old. Not being overly aggressive with the girls but he is just so big. It's hard for him to keep his balance.
