Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I have the darndist time growing flowers of any kind here
Johnny jump ups are the only kind that like me.
Is this a Johnny Jump Up? It blooms constantly from early spring until winter. It's growing next to the steps out back and I don't do a thing to help it grow.

That is very pretty. No volunteer flowers here except the dandelions. And the deer even eat those. Really we have so many here. Yesterday there were about 12 wandering through.

I don't remember if I mentioned this here, but this year we have had a visiting duck pair visiting where we feed the wild birds. Now I believe the female is on the nest because she doesn't come anymore. But the male has another male friend who is beginning to come. They arrive at dusk, so I try to put seed out on the ground just for them around 5:30. The pigeons are gone for the day by then.

Darn pigeons. They are voracious eaters and cost us a fortune! There is a whole flock of them that come through in the spring and fall.

I understand they are wood ducks and may have been checking the trees out for hollow spots when they discovered the seed. That makes sense. Not like they would just wander off the river here as the bank is so high. Here is a photo of one.

This is what one person thought on Feeding Wild Birds thread:

Male wood duck is what it looks like to me. Probably was checking out the trees and found the seeds.
