watermelon rinds

Uh, I cut the red part of the watermelon up into 1 inch x .25 pieces so the chickers can eat them easily

Actually that's mostly for my little crossbeak's benefit. Even then, she likes me to hand feed it to her. I am so well trained.

In my lg. chicken house I also have 8 rabbits running around in there and they love the watermelon rinds also..in fact sometimes the chickens are eating the watermelon and the rabbits are on the other side eating the rind...it is too too funny.

Both my chickens and my horses love the watermelon rinds. The horses eat the skin too, and it's funny to watch them chomping away with big gobs of drool/juice dripping from their lips!!

Mine love the watermelons, but their all time favorite was fresh peaches out of my hand (when they were younger...now they would take my hand off probably lol). I trained them to come when I call 'Biddy, biddy, biddy!' with those peaches and they would RUN as fast as their little T. rex legs would carry them!

I used to give mine rinds too they live them... they would rob you at gun point for rinds... however after a little research I found out that these rinds were also attracting the raccoons that killed 15+ chickens over a few weeks... I stopped giving rinds and made some security improvements and no more coon attacks

the coons were coming to get my chickens before they got back to the coop at night while they were following the scent of the watermelon

I chop the rinds into small little pieces so they can eat it all.

Caught the boyfriend doing the same thing..

he doesn't know you don't really need to do it that way.

I've got him believing all sorts of things...Like ducks and chickens need frozen peas everyday or they won't lay....ducks and chickens must have fresh vegetables from the garden...ducks and chickens need yogurt for digestion...I'm thinking about telling him we need a misting system set up for next summer when it gets too warm...

Not sure who's more spoiled, me or the critters...

My chickies LOVE watermelon rinds... They only love fresh corn more. I don't know what I'll tell them when there aren't any watermelons left in the garden!

Remember they used to pickle watermelon rinds when my mom was a kid for human consumption. My chickens eat them down to the peel.

I just got one for the girls. I also planted a couple of plants of the small sweet watermelons for me and the girls and the dogs. They should be ripe soon! Yum-Yum!

Mine love watermelon too. I also give them cantalope (seeds and all) and one of their favorites is grapes. I slice them in half and hand feed them since they go so quickly and I have a few girls who are pigs. I almost lose a few fingers each time I feed them, but they appreciate it all. Still looking for a good deal on honeydew so they can try it.
