Hey all! I'm just curious, and figured I as well ask. I weigh my chicks and ducklings the the same time daily, so far that's 6 Buff Orpingtons and 4 Pekin ducks (all female). Does anyone else do this or similar? Would this data be of use to anyone?
I'd be more than happy to share it if it helps someone out, I also keep note of anything that changes from changing bedding types to switching water systems, even when food is added and how much. Being able to compare events to the chart and the visual progress in the videos I post, I find that it really helps me to see the affects that different things have on my birds, just figured it might help someone else too.
I have more Buff Orpingtons coming as well as Black Australorps and ISA Browns so there will also be data on those once they arrive.

Welcome to BYC! I weigh my peachicks, turkey poults, & my Muscovy & Call ducklings. I even have a graph!

That's so cool a graph would be an awesome visual aid and I'd never even thought of it! Would you mind if I asked what you used for yours? No pressure of course it's just a genius idea that's gone completely over my head for the past month haha!

I started doing it with the peas because I had some sick peachicks, and I could visually see that they weren't gaining enough weight. There's just something about the chart that makes it more obvious.

Since starting that, I've also learned that charts can help you sex them. What I've noticed is that with a group of chicks from the same hen, the chicks that weigh the most are male. Let me see if I can find that chart!

That's so wild! If that's the case then I might have 2-3 males in my brooder because some are almost a full ounce ahead of their siblings. I sure hope not tho lol, I paid extra for all females 😅
