I told myself that I wouldn't do this until I hit a specific milestone. I hit that milestone today!

For a little context, I have wanted chickens for almost a decade at this point. Back in 2018 I even had a friend that was moving and was willing to sell me his whole set up but plans fell through and it was put on hold until last fall.

That is the thread of my build. A few small things have changed since but the structure has been AMAZING. I'm doing deep litter in the run area with great success. I currently only have 4 Easter Egger Pullets in there but they will be joined by a few Barred Rock pullets in a few weeks. I had some RIRs but they got rehomed due to them not getting along with the EEs.

Well this was my milestone:

First egg!!! And of course, not anywhere near a nesting box but whatever! She did it! Chestnut is our MVC for today (caught on camera that she's the one that laid it)!

I figured it was too much to hope for more eggs today. Maybe this weekend we'll get first eggs out of the rest of the girls.

I figured we'd do a little flock intro because each of the EEs are named.

Obviously, there's Chestnut, the MVC and first egg layer of the group:

Here is Earl Gray- don't tell the rest but she's my favorite

Then we have Cleo and Gandalf, they're buddies. Cleo is the one further up the ramp with the black tail feathers and black markings. Gandalf has grey accents:

You should probably explain that both Earl Gray and Gandalf the Gray are so named for their gray feathers.

I got my first button quail egg 4 days ago! It’s so eggciting when they lay their first egg!
