What age can chicks receive amprolium?

I have 14 black cochin chicks that were born July 21. I have had them on the medicated chick feed. I have already lost two chicks. The two chicks that were lost both exhibited the the classical signs of cocci. I live in hot, humid Florida so I am pretty sure this is cocci.
I would like to give them the amprolium in their water. Are they old enough to receive this medication?

If you suspect Cocci, I'd get them on Corid 9.6 solution as soon as you can. You can find it in the cattle section at Tractor Supply. Sulmet also treats Cocci, but not all of the strains of it. The dosage for the Corid is 2 tsp. per gallon of water, I believe. Your chicks are not too young and Corid is something you should really have on hand when you get new chicks. Good luck, hope this helps.

I absolutely do suspect it is cocci. And fortunately, I have a Tractor Supply just down the road.
I was just worried that giving them the Amprol 128 20% Amprolium Powder may be too strong for them at such a young age. I have some of the powder here and will administer this medicine....unless you recommend that the Corid 9.6 solution might be a better choice.
I am an absolute newbie at taking care of chickens, so I will pay attention to the wisdom of everyone here that has been doing it for
years.

Dawg would probably know for sure, but I think I remember reading that it's 1/2 of the treatment dose. Send him a PM.

I do hate to ask this. You mention don't use the amprolium unless you have to. Sadly, by the time I realize I have to use it, the chick is usually exhibiting all the classic symptoms.
For me, this usually means I notice the chick is standing in the hunched up position, eyes half closed. And by this stage, the chick is always doomed.
It seems no matter what I do, I lose a number of chicks to Cocci.
I've read every book and article on what to do and what not to do. I seem to be hexed with cocci. I start my chicks out with the Purina Medicated feed and try to keep them on this until they are at least teenagers. I have now started to get them out of the brooder as fast as possible so they can start pecking the ground to build up immunities.
I think Dr. Dawg mentioned to me that it might help out my particular situation to add the corid to the water even though the chicks are showing signs of the disease. At this point, I'll do anything to help prevent chicks from dying from this disease.
Living here in the wet lands of Florida with all the heat and humidity, is it not a good idea to perhaps use a "preventative" dose of the powder Corid?
Is the 1/2 teaspoon of Corid in a gallon of water a preventative dosage or is this the dosage that kills the cocci once the chick has the disease? Thanks, Lady Cocci.
